Quilts bring comfort … one quilt at a time.
One common thread among quilt guilds is the Outreach Committee, which is responsible for providing quilts to those in need of comfort. The gift of a quilt brightens the bad days and acts as a comforting reminder of the kindness of others.
One of our guild's aims and objectives is "to participate in community projects". HQG members are encouraged to complete a quilt kit provided by Outreach, make a quilt from their own supplies, sew neonatal items OR participate in February's Outreach Day, so together we can give some "comfort" to others in our community.

Quilting Is … offering “bundles of comfort” to community members in need.
COMFORT QUILTS
Comfort Quilts are needed even more by many members of our community. Please check the monthly reports in our newsletter to see how you might continue to help us fill the need! Or simply make a quilt in one of your favourite patterns, and arrange to drop it off! See Snippets for this information.
The Halton Quilters Guild has a proud history of making "comfort quilts". As a guild we provide an important service to our community, with our quilts going to local groups who make a difference as well as to individuals in need of comfort. Over the past two years, our guild members have created over 200 quilts which have been donated to numerous individuals as well as a wide variety of facilities in need.

HALTON HEARTS, aka INSPIRATIONAL HEARTS (Neonatal)
These wonderful flannel hearts are also helping premature babies in the NICU at Joseph Brant Hospital as well! Helping all those little ones DEFY THE ODDS ... how lucky we are to be able to do this.
-------------------
Since 2005 HQG members have sewn and donated baby blankets to the neonatal nursery at McMaster Children's Hospital. These handmade items are given with love and care to each preemie who needs them and are received with gratitude by their families and the NICU team..
In February 2018 the NICU team asked that the guild consider a new project - "Inspirational Hearts". These flannel hearts are given to the parents with newborns in the NICU. The heart is worn against their skin so that the fabric absorbs their scent. The hearts are then placed in the incubator/crib so that the scent is always with their baby. Research shows that this calms the baby. When released from hospital, the babies and their families take these hearts home with them. By June 2018 over 500 Halton Hearts were delivered to the NICU!
If you have any questions or suggestions, please speak to the Neonatal Coordinator at a guild meeting.

October 3, 2024 - Sew Kind of Wonderful with Cheryl Laine
In 2021 member Cheryl Laine discovered Facebook Sew-a-long, Rock the Block, a new fun block tutorial presented weekly for nine weeks. Owning the rulers and a healthy fabric stash, Cheryl started working with the Quick Curve ruler, Mini Quick
ruler and Wonder Curve ruler by Sew Kind of Wonderful and the fun continues!
The curved slot in the ruler makes cutting easy, allows piecing without any pinning or clipping curves and easy squaring up the blocks. Having completed many projects, Cheryl realized few Canadians had used these rulers, so she decided to become a certified educator with Sew Kind on Wonderful. And, as a longarm quilter, Cheryl now has fun quilting her own many curved projects, too.
Join us to see Cheryl’s Sew Kind of Wonderful quilts along with the other quilts that have been a part of her quilt journey.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Programme" is a fun and informative part of the monthly guild meeting. Guests speakers from outside the guild as well as talented members present both educational and entertaining talks on various aspects of quilting. Twice a year members contribute to delicious Pot Luck dinners to celebrate the winter holidays (December) and start of the summer break (June).
