Quilts bring comfort … one quilt at a time.
One common thread among quilt guilds is the Outreach Committee, which is responsible for providing quilts to those in need of comfort. The gift of a quilt brightens the bad days and acts as a comforting reminder of the kindness of others.
One of our guild's aims and objectives is "to participate in community projects". HQG members are encouraged to complete a quilt kit provided by Outreach, make a quilt from their own supplies, sew neonatal items OR participate in February's Outreach Day, so together we can give some "comfort" to others in our community.

Quilting Is … offering “bundles of comfort” to community members in need.
COMFORT QUILTS
Comfort Quilts are needed even more by many members of our community. Please check the monthly reports in our newsletter to see how you might continue to help us fill the need! Or simply make a quilt in one of your favourite patterns, and arrange to drop it off! See Snippets for this information.
The Halton Quilters Guild has a proud history of making "comfort quilts". As a guild we provide an important service to our community, with our quilts going to local groups who make a difference as well as to individuals in need of comfort. Over the past two years, our guild members have created over 200 quilts which have been donated to numerous individuals as well as a wide variety of facilities in need.

HALTON HEARTS, aka INSPIRATIONAL HEARTS (Neonatal)
These wonderful flannel hearts are also helping premature babies in the NICU at Joseph Brant Hospital as well! Helping all those little ones DEFY THE ODDS ... how lucky we are to be able to do this.
-------------------
Since 2005 HQG members have sewn and donated baby blankets to the neonatal nursery at McMaster Children's Hospital. These handmade items are given with love and care to each preemie who needs them and are received with gratitude by their families and the NICU team..
In February 2018 the NICU team asked that the guild consider a new project - "Inspirational Hearts". These flannel hearts are given to the parents with newborns in the NICU. The heart is worn against their skin so that the fabric absorbs their scent. The hearts are then placed in the incubator/crib so that the scent is always with their baby. Research shows that this calms the baby. When released from hospital, the babies and their families take these hearts home with them. By June 2018 over 500 Halton Hearts were delivered to the NICU!
If you have any questions or suggestions, please speak to the Neonatal Coordinator at a guild meeting.

September 7, 2023 Chriss Coleman - Journeys and Explorations through Quilting
An early interest in sewing led Stouffville’s Chriss Coleman to sew her own clothes, design them and then study fashion design at Ryerson. She also made several traditional quilts that were loved by family, but found these quilts never quite captured her heart.
In 2015 Chriss was introduced to the idea of Improv Quilting. “I love the freedom that is backbone of Improv Quilting, and the puzzle solving skills required to make it work. In essence, I love creating pieces that keep me thinking through the entire process, which is not unlike the skills I acquired as a Costumer.”
Her quilt ’On the Grid’ won 1st place in the Abstract and Improvisational category at the National Juried Show (Quilt Canada) in 2021.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Programme" is a fun and informative part of the monthly guild meeting. Guests speakers from outside the guild as well as talented members present both educational and entertaining talks on various aspects of quilting. As part of the guild's OUTREACH, the Programme focus of February's meeting is the sewing of comfort quilts. This event combines the afternoon with a shortened business meeting in the evening. Other special events include the Pot Luck Dinners in December and June.
